A new series of crash tests by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety IIHS revealed troubling results for minivans are often perceived as some of the safest vehicles on the road.
One particular crash test was described by a principal officer at IIHS as one of the worst crash tests that we have ever seen.
This review summarizes the small overlap crash test for the Nissan Quest, which wound up getting a poor rating from IIHS.
A person would be lucky to ever walk normally, said Dave Zuby, executive vice president of the Insurance Institute corner of the driver's door was pushed in two feet in the crash Accordingly, floor panel and instrument the dummy pinned in his seat, we had to remove the seat to cut the model out of the vehicle.

Zuby IIHS added that engineers had to use a crow bar to release the right foot of the dummy.
Asked about the crash test results and feedback from the IIHS, Nissan spokesman Steve Yeager said, Nissan will continue to examine these and other results IIHS tests we look for opportunities for improvement.
Yeager underlines the quest has received good ratings from IIHS for other crash tests, including moderate recovery front and side impact tests.

The latest crash tests to check how minivans treated small overlap collision in which the front corner of a vehicle strikes another vehicle of an object like a tree or a street light.
Of the five minivans were crushed by the Insurance Institute, only two have received positive feedback.
The Honda Odyssey was the best, receive a good rating, IIHS evaluated while the Toyota Sienna as acceptable.
It's not encouraging to see that only 40 percent of minivans acceptable or better in these tests Especially when you consider how many people drive these vehicles, said Zuby.

The Odyssey and Sienna are the first two choices of security by the IIHS.

Two other models, the Dodge Caravan and Chrysler Town and Country were classified as poor by the Insurance Institute, although Zuby said these models do not also hurt the quest.
Chrysler spokesman Eric Mayne said, only test determines the overall safety of the vehicles Chrysler Group minivans meet or exceed the safety requirements imposed by the government, they do not change, structurally, vehicles of the year preceding model who received the best performance ratings awarded by the IIHS in tests simulating the four main types of side collision from front to back and overthrow moderate overlap.

Minivans are the last vehicle segment through small overlap crash test with the Insurance Institute.
Over the past two years, the IIHS has dozens of different vehicles by similar collisions, see how different models react when the front corner of the driver's side strikes another vehicle or object at 40 miles.
It is one of the scenarios of the most frequent and potentially fatal accidents faced by drivers.
While Zuby had scathing remarks about the quest, he would not comment on how the passengers would have treated elsewhere in the minivan a similar accident.

We do not see how the children sitting in the second or third row would have been affected by this accident, he said.
